Legal Support First Term Report 2010

LEGAL SUPPORT

First Term Report 2010

In the monitored period the Legal Support has dealt with 40 cases of relatively wide-ranging issues:

  • Entitlement to and receipt of redundancy payment
  • Unlawful dismissal and issuing of P45
  • Eligibility and duration of the temporary suspension of Employment Contract by the employer
  • Advice on tax return at the time of unemployment
  • Consulting services about social benefits and welfare,

Of the above total number of 40 cases an overwhelming majority (36 cases, 90 per cent) was dealt with in the form personal information provision, or telephone contact or via E-mail. The remaining 4 cases (10 per cent of the total) were considered to be especially important and serious. Due to their complexity the authorized representative of the Legal Support Department dealt with them personally by representing clients during negotiations with their employers.

During the monitored period, only 5 per cent (2 cases) of all clients that contacted the Centre were recommended by the Diplomatic Office of Slovak Republic, which indicates the continuous cooperation and support of the project by the Embassy of Slovak Republic in Ireland.

There is a rapid decrease of number of cases registered in comparing with previous year 2009. This reflects to a high number of clients who were interested in relocation back to Slovakia especially at the period between October and December 2009. What is more, it also reflects to current State’s Economy and high level of unemployment, when most of people rather reconsider their priorities and stop dealing with unlawful or discrimination issues at workplace, just to decrease the probability or avoid being let go.
